UPDATE: FOALED APRIL 17, 2007 BLACK AND WHITE TOBIANO FILLY CHECK OUT JAZZ ON THE FOAL PAGE
BABY JAZZ STORY I was keeping a close watch on Scarlet as she has a tendency to not show any signs of foaling. I was watching her on the streaming live cam from the house when I noticed on the evening of the 17th that she was pretty restless. I immediately took off for the barn. Yes she was pacing and was starting to sweat. I knew we were going to have a baby soon. What I wasn't expecting was to see a red bag coming. Scarlet has had many foals before and had never had a red bag delivery. As soon as I saw it coming, I reached inside her "yeah, oh yuk" and literally tore that bag open, but what else do you do when you have a member of your family in trouble. I tore the red bag and poof here comes the normal white sac. I helped Scarlet to deliver the baby as fast as I could, because when you encounter a red bag delivery, that means the baby could be oxygen deprived and you end up with a dummy foal. Scarlet foaled a Beautiful black and white filly. Baby Jazz as I call her, got up and nursed with no problems. I thought "great we got past the dummy foal syndrome". I watched her very close over the next few days and as I didnt want anything to happen to this filly. I noticed that after a couple days when she slept "Jazz slept very sound, almost like in a comotose state ", that it was hard for her to wake up. I now got worried and took her and mom to my great vet, Dr. Badger. He took blood and tested it to make sure everything was normal. The only thing he found was that she was running a slight temp and he put her on antibiotics for 7 days. Within a couple days of her taking the antibiotics, her sleep pattern became normal. Dr Badger also told me that of all the dummy foal symptoms to have this was very slight and she would out grow it.. BABY JAZZ IS NOW RUNNING AND PLAYING JUST LIKE ALL THE OTHERS!!!!!!

UPDATE FOALED MAY 19, 2007 BROWN TOBIANO COLT CHECK OUT RANGER ON THE FOAL PAGE

Baby Ranger's Story Ranger was born on Saturday, May 20, 2007. I noticed after he was born that he was not extending his Mr. Pecker when he had to piddle. When you touched him on his rump, he would lay his ears flay back on his head and try to turn around and bite. This is not normal behavior for a newborn foal. When he would try to run his hiney was tucked as was his tail. I knew something was wrong. I watched him closely for a few days and his scrotum area was starting to swell. I called the vet on Wednesday (remember he was only 5 days old now), I started him on antibiotics that Wednesday and my vet (Dr. Badger) told me to bring him into the office first thing Thursday morning. We were loaded and off to the vets by 7:30 am. Dr Badger checked him over and told me Ranger had a hernia in the scrotum area and needed surgery. It resulted in having his muscles all tightened up and it hurt. We layed him down and fixed the hernia which was attached to his left testicle. Ranger was also gelded at this time. Baby Ranger is recooperating very nicely. He is now running and bucking and hootin and hollering.. He is now feeling is oats. His attitude has changed dramatically. Ranger is so sweet and curious now and wants to be petted and rubbed on. Asking Dr Badger if this is hereditary? His answer was "no, it is common with newborn colts". Congratulations to Pam and Phil Burian on your purchase of Ranger
